After moving to West Dorset in 2004 we went about creating Water Meadows cottage and The Old Coach House. Although there are several pages of information about the accommodation on our website, we thought our potential guests might also like to know a little bit about what this wonderful area has to offer.
With so many thing to do and see, we've created this blog to share our personal experiences which we hope will inspire you to explore this fantastic area. We hope to add posts over the coming months and years building this blog into a comprehensive guide to West Dorset's many sights and attractions. We also welcome comments from anyone who has visited the area and wish to share their experiences and recommendations.

Introduction to the area
Our two cottages are situated on the edge of Maiden Newton, a rural village right in the heart of West Dorset's Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). The area is one of 49 AONBs in England, Wales and Northern Island designated as nationally important landscapes. Here we have it all, from chalk escarpments and ridge tops offering panoramic views of the rolling landscape, to some of England's finest unspoilt beaches.
In addition to the area's natural beauty there are many interesting historic buildings and monuments worthy of a visit, and numerous activities on offer, including fishing, golf, sailing, scuba diving and much more.
We plan to cover as much as possible in future posts and welcome any questions or suggestions from anyone intending to visit the area.
